Who we are
aantstudio builds and publishes the apps listed on this site. Contact us at contact@aantstudio.com.
General principles
These hold across every app we publish:
- We do not sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
- We do not share your data for advertising. Where an app shows ads, this is stated plainly in that app's section.
- We collect the minimum an app needs to work, and each app's section says exactly what that is.
- You can refuse a permission and keep using whatever does not depend on it.
What Qalam collects
Qalam is a Windows program for drawing on your screen. It has no account and no sign-in, and it goes online for one thing only: keeping itself up to date.
What we collect
- Nothing is collected, transmitted or stored by us. There are no servers, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising.
- Your drawings stay on your PC. What you draw exists only on your screen and is forgotten when you close it. It is saved only when you press Ctrl + S: then a picture of the screen with your drawing goes into
PicturesQalamand onto your clipboard, and nowhere else. - The screen is read only when you ask. Qalam takes a picture of the screen when you save (Ctrl + S) and when you start the zoom, to show it magnified. It does not record the screen, and those pictures stay on your PC.
- Keyboard shortcuts. Qalam registers three shortcuts with Windows (Ctrl + Shift + D, W and Z). It only learns that one of those was pressed; it does not read anything else you type. While the drawing board is open, the keys you press go to the board, for its one-letter tool shortcuts and for the text you type onto it.
What it changes on your PC
- Installation — the program is copied into your own user folder (
AppDataLocalProgramsQalam), with a Start menu shortcut and, if you choose, a desktop shortcut. No admin rights are requested. - Start with Windows — if you choose it, a shortcut to Qalam goes into your Startup folder so the drawing shortcuts work as soon as you sign in. Untick it in Qalam’s window to remove it.
- Installed apps entry — so that Qalam can be removed from Windows Settings like any other program.
Updates
When it starts, Qalam downloads a small file from www.aantstudio.com/updates.json that lists the newest version. If a newer one exists it downloads the installer from GitHub, where our downloads are hosted, and runs it. Those two requests carry what any web request does — your IP address and a line saying the program and its version — and nothing else. Our hosting providers may keep ordinary server logs of the requests.
Links
Qalam’s window has links to this website, this policy, the terms and our email address. They open in your own browser or mail program only when you click them.
Children
Qalam is suitable for teachers and students of any age. It collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Data retention and deletion
There is nothing on our side to delete, because nothing reaches us. Uninstalling Qalam from Settings → Apps → Installed apps removes the program, its shortcuts and its start-up shortcut. Pictures you saved stay in your Pictures folder until you delete them.
Data security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Access to production systems is limited to people who need it, and authentication and payment details are handled by the specialist providers named above rather than stored by us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Email contact@aantstudio.com and we will respond within 30 days.
California residents (CCPA)
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA. You have the right to know what we collect, to request deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising either.
European Economic Area and UK (GDPR)
We process your data to perform the service you asked for, and on the basis of consent where a permission is involved. You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and to object. You may also complain to your local supervisory authority.
Children
Our apps are not intended for children under 13, or under the minimum age required where you live if that is higher. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the app they affect.
