How we decide

Three rules we do not bend.

It has to earn its icon
An app takes a slot on your home screen and a slice of your attention. We would rather ship a smaller thing that works than a bigger thing that almost does.

Say what it actually does
What an app collects, what it costs and what it cannot do are written down before launch — on this site and inside the app. No dark patterns, no buried renewals.

Maintained, not abandoned
Everything here is still ours after launch. The person who built it is the person who fixes it, week in and week out, for as long as people use it.
