General principles
These hold across every app we publish:
- We do not sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
- We do not share your data for advertising. Where an app shows ads, this is stated plainly in that app's section.
- We collect the minimum an app needs to work, and each app's section says exactly what that is.
- You can refuse a permission and keep using whatever does not depend on it.
What Paperwork collects
Paperwork is a Windows program for working with PDFs and pictures: merging, reordering, signing, splitting, shrinking and converting them. It does all of it on your own PC. It has no account, and it goes online for one thing only: keeping itself up to date.
What we collect
- Nothing is collected, transmitted or stored by us. There are no servers, no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising.
- Your files never leave your PC. Paperwork reads the files you open, works on them in memory, and writes the results only where you choose to save them. It does not change the files you opened unless you choose to save over them.
- Signatures. If you leave “Remember on this PC” ticked, the signature you drew or typed is kept as a picture in Paperwork’s settings on your PC (up to eight), so you can use it again. You can forget any of them from the signature window.
- Your settings stay on your PC, in
AppData\Roaming\Paperwork: the folders you last used, your choices and a short event log (for example “saved a PDF”, never what was in it).
What it changes on your PC
- Installation — the program is copied into your own user folder (
AppData\Local\Programs\Paperwork) with a Start menu shortcut. No admin rights are requested. - “Open with” — Paperwork adds itself to the “Open with” list for PDFs, PNGs and JPGs. It does not take over your default PDF reader. Uninstalling removes it.
Updates
When it starts, and every few hours while it runs, Paperwork downloads a small file from www.aantstudio.com/updates.json that lists the newest version. If a newer one exists it downloads the installer from GitHub, where our downloads are hosted, and runs it. Those requests carry what any web request does — your IP address and a line naming the program — and nothing else.
Children
Paperwork collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Data retention and deletion
There is nothing on our side to delete, because nothing reaches us. Uninstalling Paperwork removes the program, its settings and any signatures it remembered. Files you saved stay where you saved them.
Data security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Access to production systems is limited to people who need it, and authentication and payment details are handled by the specialist providers named above rather than stored by us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Email contact@aantstudio.com and we will respond within 30 days.
California residents (CCPA)
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA. You have the right to know what we collect, to request deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising either.
European Economic Area and UK (GDPR)
We process your data to perform the service you asked for, and on the basis of consent where a permission is involved. You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and to object. You may also complain to your local supervisory authority.
Children
Our apps are not intended for children under 13, or under the minimum age required where you live if that is higher. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the app they affect.
