General principles
These hold across every app we publish:
- We do not sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
- We do not share your data for advertising. Where an app shows ads, this is stated plainly in that app's section.
- We collect the minimum an app needs to work, and each app's section says exactly what that is.
- You can refuse a permission and keep using whatever does not depend on it.
What Keepsafe collects
Keepsafe is a Windows program that backs up folders you choose to a drive or folder you choose. It has no account, no cloud and no servers of ours: your backup lives only where you put it, and Keepsafe goes online for one thing only, keeping itself up to date.
What we collect
- Nothing is collected, transmitted or stored by us. There are no analytics, no crash reporting and no advertising.
- Your files go only to your backup drive. Keepsafe reads the folders you chose and writes copies, and a list of what was in them at each backup, to the destination you chose. Nothing is sent anywhere else.
- Encryption. If you set a password, everything Keepsafe writes to the backup is encrypted with AES-256 under a key derived from your password. The password itself is never stored. So that scheduled backups can run without asking, the derived key is kept on your PC, encrypted by Windows for your user account.
- On your PC, in
AppData\Roaming\Keepsafe: your backup plan (folders, destination, schedule), the history of recent backups and a short event log. Uninstalling removes them; it never touches your backups.
What it changes on your PC
- Installation — the program is copied into your own user folder (
AppData\Local\Programs\Keepsafe) with a Start menu shortcut. No admin rights are requested. - Restoring — Keepsafe writes restored files where you ask. Restoring to the original place never overwrites a file that is there: the restored copy gets the date in its name.
- Start with Windows — if you choose it during setup or in Settings.
Updates
When it starts, and every few hours while it runs, Keepsafe downloads a small file from www.aantstudio.com/updates.json that lists the newest version. If a newer one exists it downloads the installer from GitHub, where our downloads are hosted, and runs it. Those requests carry what any web request does — your IP address and a line naming the program — and nothing else.
Children
Keepsafe collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
Data retention and deletion
There is nothing on our side to delete, because nothing reaches us. Your backups stay on your drive until you delete the Keepsafe folder on it; old versions are thinned out automatically as described on the Keepsafe page.
Data security
Data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Access to production systems is limited to people who need it, and authentication and payment details are handled by the specialist providers named above rather than stored by us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. Email contact@aantstudio.com and we will respond within 30 days.
California residents (CCPA)
We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA. You have the right to know what we collect, to request deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising either.
European Economic Area and UK (GDPR)
We process your data to perform the service you asked for, and on the basis of consent where a permission is involved. You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and to object. You may also complain to your local supervisory authority.
Children
Our apps are not intended for children under 13, or under the minimum age required where you live if that is higher. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has an account, email us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your data we will update this page and change the date at the top. Significant changes will also be announced in the app they affect.
